Infant Department ( Year 1 and 2)

This department sees the start of what we would term 'formal education' of the child. The children are ready for the next step of their education following on from the early years of the Reception class. Our classes are small which allows the teachers to give a lot of individual attention, especially when teaching the all important reading, writing and maths.Reception Children
We aim to encourage the creativity of each child through a diverse and enriched curriculum.
The thematic approach to teaching is evident in Key Stage One and allows cross curricular work to take place. This engages the children and consolidates knowledge and understanding of new concepts, for example History or Geography.
We offer specialist teachers for Music, German and in Year two P.E. All the Infants have access to our purpose built ICT suite. The Infant staff are now in the process of piloting the teaching of French throughout the department. During the school day we also offer Ballet and Speech and Drama.

We offer a range of After School Activities such as Football Coaching, Craft Club, Busy Bee Club and Library.

The children are actively involved in Infant productions such a Harvest and Christmas as well as class assemblies. School trips and visits are important in the Infants and enrich the learning experience.

At the end of Key Stage One we carry out Teacher Assessments of each child. We also monitor progress through tests for English and Maths at the beginning and end of each year. The aim of Key Stage One is to encourage all children to become confident, independent learners!
