Outstanding
Curriculum
At Tonstall House we follow the National Curriculum at Foundation Stage and at Key Stages 1 and 2. We aim to exceed the requirements of this curriculum in all subjects. We have adjusted the curriculum in those areas where we have felt it necessary to maintain curriculum breadth beyond statutory requirements.
We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum to enable each pupil to reach his or her own potential. We believe that children need to be offered a wide curriculum and a range of extra-curricular opportunities. We adopt a wide range of teaching styles to facilitate effective learning.
The main areas of the curriculum are:
English
Mathematics
Science
History
Geography
Design Technology
Art
Music
Religious Education
Physical Education
Information and Communication Technology
Personal, Social, Health Education and Citizenship
In addition to these we teach German from the age of 4 years. French is also introduced as a Modern Foreign Language.
Information and Communication Technology is taught to all children from Reception to Year 6.
Pupils are taught mainly by their class teacher but specialist teaching increases as the children move through the school.
Please click on the links for each year for further details.
