The Turbulent Term of ‘Tyke’ Tiler

This week has brought the two eagerly awaited  nights of this year’s school play, ‘The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tiler’.  Ms Greest and her team of fantastic performers gave all present two exciting and hugely enjoyable nights, with Lucy Young playing Theodora ‘Tyke’ Tyler and Jak Jobson as her best friend Danny. The acting was brilliant and the story compelling.  A huge thank you to all who were involved – we hope for an equally brilliant performance next year! (Sebastian Ward)

See Mrs Thompson’s review of the play in the next newsletter,

Reporting for Inspection, Sir!

As you will all know, last week we had some visitors. These visitors were from the ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate), and they were conducting a full inspection of the school. Whether it was holding open doors, or helping the Inspectors find their way around, the Inspectors commented on how polite and helpful all members of the school were - thank you for that! We would also like to thank those of you who filled in the on-line questionnaire, which will help give the Inspectors a full picture of life at SHS. The team of Inspectors will be back after half-term, so it will be more of the same, please!  (Mark Thompson)

SHS Charity Band Night

Next half term (probably 31st March 2011) a band night will be held at Sunderland High School, featuring pupils past and present, and maybe a teacher or two… or even a band full of teachers ... Refreshments will be served and it promises to be an evening filled with fun and good music. Entry will be by wristband only -  they will be available soon for a price of £3. Stay tuned for further details, set lists, and finalised times and dates.  (Andrew Berston)

Top Points for Hannah and Elizabeth

On Sunday 13th February, Year 10 pupils Hannah Briggs and Elizabeth Tilley competed in the Scottish National Indoor Athletics Combined Events up at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow.  Hannah finished in 8th position with 2364 points, and Elizabeth was 11th with 2238 points.  Well done to both on an outstanding performance.
