Junior Newsletter 11th March 2011

Issue 22

Lunch Menu

Meals from Monday 14th March will be menu number 3. The Junior Lunch Rota for this week will be Year 3 at 12.15, Year 3 at 12.25, Year 6 at 12.35 and Year 4 at 12.40.

Local Resident Concerns

We have been asked by the local residents association to remind parents about inconsiderate parking at the end of the school day in Corby Drive. The residents point out that this is a private road for which they pay maintenance and that recently, grass verges have been damaged by parents who park in front of their driveways. Further, it is reported that some parents have blocked entrance and exits for the local residents and that this should not continue. Thank you for your support in this matter.

Whilst on the subject of transport there are still parents who are using the school's disabled bays as a short term parking area. Please note that these are ONLY to be used by disabled badge holders at all times. This week an elderly disabled gentleman was forced to park outside of the school grounds. The additional distance that he had to walk caused him much anxiety, distress and pain. Please could all parents be alert to the needs of others who are disabled?

After School Activity Invoices

Unfortunately, and despite several reminders, a number of parents have still not settled invoices for after school activities provided by our external coaches and tutors. This is the main source of income for their time spent working with our children from 3.45pm until 4.30pm and sometimes beyond. Regretfully, we will no longer be able to allow children to continue attending these paid after school activities if invoices have not been settled with the external tutors by the start of the third week or session.

End of School Inspection

The inspection of our school by ISI (Independent School Inspectorate) is now almost over. The school is obliged to inform all parents of the outcome of our inspection and we will do this as soon as possible. We have welcomed the inspection process even though it has been a very thorough and gruelling process for us all. Thank you to all parents and pupils who contributed to the inspection via the on-line questionnaires.

SHS Open Day

Our next school open day takes place on Saturday, 19th March between 10am and 2pm. The theme will be ‘Food, Flags and Festivals'. Two 2-hour activities will take place - one for infants, the other for juniors. As with previous open days, children have been asked if they would like to take part. If any parents are aware of any families whose children might be interested in joining Sunderland High School then please encourage them to come along and see what we offer.

Pancake Princes and Princesses!

Well done to the children in Reception who made some fantastic pancakes last week!

Cub Success!

Our Cubs secured joint Third Place in the Sunderland District Handicraft competition which took place in St Nicholas Church Hall on Saturday 5th March. The topic was Airports and the team of Ruth Embley, Louise Peart and India Hammal had 90 minutes to build a model on the theme of airports, with at least one moving part, out of cardboard boxes, tubes and other odds and ends.  The competition was a close run thing which was eventually decided on to how many moving parts each group had built into their model.

Congratulations

To the following children who are celebrating birthdays over the next few days: Thomas Martin, Kirenjeet Sangha and Jason Delaney.
