Junior Newsletter 1st April 2011

Issue 25

Lunch Menu

Meals from Monday 4th April will be menu number 2. The Junior Lunch Rota for this week will be Year 3 at 12.15, Year 5 at 12.25, Year 6 at 12.35 and Year 4 at 12.40.

Nursery Wedding

On Monday 4th April the Nursery children are taking part in a mock wedding at St. John's Church, Ashbrooke to help celebrate the forthcoming Royal Wedding. The service will be conducted by the Revd Derek Aldridge. It seems incredible that it was five years ago when the Nursery had a similar wedding. On that occasion the bride and groom were Blake Stephenson and India Hammal. This year, the lucky couple are James Dixon and Mollie Foster. The ceremony takes place at 10am and parents are welcome to attend for what is likely to be a packed audience.

School Spring Fayre

We will be holding our ever popular Spring Fayre tomorrow on Saturday 2nd April from 12.30 onwards. This will be supported by our hard working PTA who do so much to support this school. There will be a bouncy castle and circus skills entertainment for the children, a number of stalls, competitions and of course, the BBQ. We anticipate that this will be yet another fantastic event, weather permitting! We hope that all families are able to come along and enjoy the fayre. Please bring along any friends to what I am sure will be another lovely, family fun afternoon.

Year 5 Derwent Hill Update

Preparations continue for the annual Year 5 trip to Derwent Hill Outdoor Education Centre between the 2nd and 6th May. Due to its success last year, a Twitter account has been set up to follow the adventures of the children. If you already have a Twitter account, just follow derwenthill2011. If you are new to Twitter, go to www.twitter.com and have a look around and perhaps sign up. All parents and friends are welcome to follow, not just those from Year 5. It will hopefully give an insight into the activities the children enjoy on a residential trip. Any questions, please feel free to ask Mr Smith.

Nursery Adventure Valley Trip

The nursery children enjoyed a lovely visit to Adventure Valley in Durham this week. They were able to handle many animals as well as being introduced to some exotic creatures! The children (and some of the parents!) also enjoyed the fantastic play area as well as a tractor ride. Thank you to all of the parents who came along to help.

Summer Uniform

A reminder to all parents that pupils should return to school on 3rd May wearing their summer uniform. Infant boys are allowed to wear shorts. Summer items can be purchased from the school uniform shop every Wednesday. Please contact Mrs Walls for details.

U11 Football Tournament

On Tuesday 22nd March the U11 football team played two games. The team was Robbie P, Sam R, Blake, Robbie F, Mark, BJ, Felix, Gabriel and Michael. In the first game we played Hudson Road. In the first half we played very well and Felix managed to score a brilliant goal leaving the score at half time 1-0 to Sunderland. In the second half Hudson Road upped their game and managed to score 2 goals. The final result was 2-1 to Hudson Road. In the second game however we played Argyll House. In the first half, Felix managed to score two goals with a third coming from Michael. In the second half Argyll House came at us strong but Sunderland managed to score another goal through Michael. Sunderland kept trying and because of their tremendous team effort Michael scored his hat-trick followed by a goal from BJ. The end result was 6-0 to Sunderland. Thank you to Felix for the match report and to Mr Rich and Mr Smith for taking us.

Scout Activities

As part of their Community Challenge Badge the school Cub Pack and Scout Group as been helping to raise funds for this year's Sixth Form trip to Malawi by participating in a sponsored assault course. This raised £250 which was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Wayman when they visited Cubs and Scouts to talk to them about the important work our school's pupils will be undertaking in the orphan care centre and the Julia Sharpe Secondary School in Nkhotakota in  July. The money raised will feed one child in the orphanage for one year, provide 10 desks for the Julia Sharpe school and help fund a supply of much needed medicine for the local hospital. Our congratulations and thanks go to all the Cubs and Scouts who took part and to Jack Woods for organizing the event.

School Photographs

School (class) photographs are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 5th April with Tempest Photography. Children who are in teams should also bring in their kit.
