Outstanding Inspection Report for Sunderland High School 

It is with the greatest of pleasure that I enclose your copy of Sunderland High School’s 2011 Inspection Report.  This is an outstanding report.  Indeed, the words ‘outstanding’ and ‘excellent’ are used more than 30 times!  The report confirms Sunderland High School’s position as the outstanding school in Sunderland and as an independent school of the very highest calibre.  

You will be as proud as I am to read that ‘the standard of the pupils’ personal development is excellent’; that our pupils ‘receive strong challenge from the high quality of teaching’; that ‘the excellent curriculum is broad throughout the school to offer maximum choice to each pupil’; that ‘teaching shows outstanding subject knowledge’; that ‘teaching strongly enables the pupils’ successful learning and leads to high achievement’;  that ‘the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils is excellent throughout the school’; that ‘the school’s arrangements for the welfare, health and  safety of all its pupils are excellent and support the pupils’ outstanding personal development’; and that ‘outcomes for children in the EYFS (Early Years) are outstanding’.  Please read the report in its entirety in order to appreciate the significance of this outstanding judgement.   

I would like to thank the many parents who assisted the work of the Inspection Team, whether by completing the parental questionnaire or by meeting with the Inspectors at the Parents’ Forum.  I am also grateful to our pupils, young and old, for their readiness to engage with the Inspection Team in lessons, registration, extracurricular activities and in more formal meetings.  Most of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the staff of the school, both teaching and support staff.  Their never-ending dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to the school and the pupils they teach is what has made this outstanding report possible.  I am delighted that this has been recognised by the Inspection Team, and I would like to take this opportunity to add my own heartfelt thanks.
