Year 10 Cornucopia Evening

On the evening of Thursday 30th June,

The Year 10 Cornucopia evening was held, to celebrate the end of Year 10, and the talents, achievements and adventures the pupils have had this year. It was a wonderful and very well attended evening, with the Main School Hall being almost filled! The evening kicked off at 7pm with a vibrant karate demonstration by Jack Preston. Following this were talks ranging from Latin to the ski trip to pupil art work.  Various musical items were played by different members of Year 10, with songs such as ‘Summer of 69’ by Bryan Adams and ‘Fasten Your Seatbelts’ by Pendulum. Thank you very much to all who attended the evening, and a really big well done to all the Year 10 pupils who were involved.  (Sebastian Ward)

Strike a Pose

Last Wednesday saw the 2011 Malawi Expedition Fashion Show take place.

The show was enjoyed by all, and attracted a large audience, one member of which claimed that the show had been the best £5 they had ever spent! Topshop, Hollister, Burton and Debenhams were just some of the brands showcased by our fantastic models, amongst amazing musical performances by both past and present pupils. The show raised over £500 for the Malawi Expedition, allowing the team to make an even more positive impact on the Malawian community when they arrive. The entire Malawi team would like to thank everyone who supported the show by attending, buying raffle tickets, or performing as a model or music act – your help with our cause is greatly appreciated.  (Mark Thompson)

A Championship Athletics Finalist!

Hannah Briggs (Y10) competed in the recent ESAA NE Combined Events athletics meeting held in Doncaster on June 25th and 26th.  Hannah  competed with the Durham inter-girls team.  After the points of the Heptathlon were calculated the Durham team finished in 3rd place.   The next 3 individuals qualified for a place in the championships final.  Not only did Hannah achieve 6(!) ‘personal bests’, but she was also one of the 3 individuals who qualified for the ESAA Combined Events championships final to be held in Exeter in September.

Congratulations, Hannah!  Keep on running … and jumping … and throwing …
