2011 Examination Results

Outstanding Examination Results are rewarded with a Top 100 place!

Best Key Stage 2 results in the North East!

Many congratulation to last year's Year 6 pupils: their outstanding Key Stage 2 SAT results have once again earned the school a place in the Sunday Times list of the Top 100 Independent Junior Schools.  The government target for the end of Year 6 is Level 4 in English and Maths.  Our pupils took this in their stride - 64% achieved Level 5 in English and 86% achieved  Level 5 in Maths.  These are the best Key Stage 2 Sat results in the North East!

Top grades at GCSE

Well done, Year 11!  An impressive 61.3% of our GCSE entries gained the top quality A*-B grades - a wonderful platform for A Level study. In English Literature, an astonishing 65% of pupils gained A* or A grades, for which hearty congratulations are due.

A Level Success

Our Year 13 students demonstrated once again what hard work and commitment can bring when they opened their results envelopes on August 18th.  55% of their entries earned the sought after top A*-B grades - the grades which University Admissions Officers like to see!  Year 13 are now excitedly preparing for university life, as you can read below...

International student Sade Fape joined the school for her Sixth Form studies in September 2009 – all the way from Nigeria! Sade found a warm welcome at Sunderland High School, and just 2 years on she will be leaving us having achieved 1 A* and 2 A grades at A level. Sade is off to study International Business and Globalisation at Leicester University. “Not only did I get my grades, but thanks to the specialist teachers here, I was able to complete work experience placements and get careers advice. This helped me choose my course and motivated me further to achieve what I needed.”

James Parnell achieved an impressive set of straight A grades.  He takes the prize for the furthest university destination: Bath University to study Economics.

Lucy Turnbull, the school’s Head Girl, has been at Sunderland High School since the age of 4. Lucy has achieved 3 A grades and will be going on to study Dentistry at Birmingham University. “I was extremely nervous the night before. I am so pleased that I got what I needed to do Dentistry - and I can’t wait to get to Birmingham!”

Rebecca Cohen has also been at the school since the age of 4.  Rebecca was determined to keep up her study of German at A level but she also wanted a place to read Biomedical Science at Leeds University.  Solution?  She combined her sciences with her love of languages and gained A*, A, A in Chemistry, Biology and German!  Sunderland High School is the only Independent school in Sunderland with specialist language teaching from the age of 4.

Aritri, who has been here since Year 6, will be going to Sheffield University to study Medicine after achieving 4 A grades and an A*.  Aritri has just returned from the School’s 2011 expedition to Malawi where, as part of a 24-strong Sixth Form team, she helped to build a dormitory in our partner school in Nkhotakota, a deprived rural area of Africa. “I’m so grateful that Sunderland High School gave me the opportunity to go to Malawi.  It was a complete eye opener. It really made me appreciate home and I learned a lot about myself.”

With a Sixth Form which has been delivering outstanding results since 1912, Sunderland High school continues to provide its students with an unrivalled springboard into university life and beyond.

Once again this year, a great deal of very hard work on the part of our pupils and their teachers has been rightly rewarded.  Well done!
