Best Match Report 2010-11

The winners of the Best Match Report Competition of 2010-11 were announced in Assembly on Thursday.  In second place came the U16 netball team’s  report on their match against Oswestry School.  First place went to the report on the U18 football team’s match against Yarm School.

Written by Jonathan Russell, the report was fluent and incisive, but don’t take my word for it – read for yourself!

Yarm vs Sunderland High “On Wednesday 9thMarch Sunderland High School’s 6th Form football team travelled to Yarm for their second match of the season. Sunderland High dominated the early stages and deservedly took the lead midway through the first half when Harry Eddowes whipped a ball in from the right to Sean Usher who after beating the last defender with a neat touch, fired the ball past the Yarm keeper. The second half began in a similar fashion, but Yarm were gifted an equaliser against the run of play when a defensive error due to difficult conditions allowed Yarm in one-on-one and they finally got the better of an impressive Sam Hogg in the Sunderland High goal. Sunderland High continued to threaten, dominating possession but Yarm were still a threat on the counter attack, especially with their introduction of a lightning quick winger who immediately troubled the right side of the Sunderland High defence. Unfortunately, again against the run of play, Yarm took the lead late on when poor marking from a corner gave the home team a free header and an undeserved lead. Sunderland High could have easily equalised from any of a number of late chances, noticeably when a goal-bound shot from Sean Usher was deflected into the relieved Yarm keeper’s arms. Despite this late effort Yarm held out to win 2-1, but Sunderland High’s performance merited a much better result. Man of the match was Alex Ruff. “

(PS The prize for first place was a delicious chocolate cake, to be shared between the team members.)

The Year 7 Parents’ Evening will be held in the Spring Term.
