It’s that time of the year again when Sunderland High’s greatest musicians, ranging from 11 to 18 years old, join together for House Music, to complete for those coveted House points! This year’s House Music competition has an interesting twist: each House must put forward one act which plays or sings (or both) their favourite Disney song. This is sure to bring out the inner child in everyone and will have many struggling to stop themselves from singing along.House Music is set to take place on Wednesday 5th October and is sure to be lots of fun! There is still time to get involved, so contact your Head of House for more details.

If you think you might like to do Karate, but are not quite sure, come to a FREE KARATE TASTER SESSION on Monday 3rd October.  The session will run from 4.30 – 5.50 pm in the Sports Hall in Junior School.  It is offered by Mrs Rosanne Tombs who has run Karate classes at Sunderland High School for many years.  No need to sign up – just come along on the day.  Wear comfortable sports clothing – a tracksuit would be ideal.

Year 12 trip to Parliament – the student view

At 6:45 am on Wednesday 21st September, Year 12 were already at Newcastle Central Station, bright eyed and bushy tailed. A quick 3 hour hop down to London and before we knew it we were cramming ourselves on to the tube like true cockney commuters. After a wander down Whitehall and a fleeting view of Downing Street, we came to the imposing Houses of Parliament. After a rather thorough security check (during which one of our party was patted down!) we started our fascinating tour, which included a visit to the House of Commons and the House of Lords. There followed a slightly tentative debating session with a Baroness who has first-hand experience of debating in the House of Lords. In the afternoon, we had a couple of free hours in the cultural hub of Covent Garden, where street-theatre and market stalls stand side-by-side. The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all - many thanks to Mrs Robson and Mrs Roddy for making it possible
