Staff will be putting on a range of activities in the dining hall and sports hall for selected groups of children from each year. If you know of any parents who are thinking about Sunderland High School as the choice of school for their children then please encourage them to come along to see what we offer. The Open Day will be followed by an ‘Open Doors Week' from Monday 17th October. This will be an opportunity for prospective children to sample a typical day in school.

Congratulations

To the following children who will be celebrating birthdays over the coming week: India Mason, James Dixon and Dipo Fagbemi.

Special Weeks Ahead!

Please note that week beginning 10th October, the very popular Book Fayre returns to the Junior School. An exciting range of titles and stationery will be on sale. The Book Fayre will be held in the library on the first floor and purchases can be made at break times or after school.

Meanwhile, Year 6 children may wish to check and adjust their cycles sooner rather than later as Cycling Proficiency Week begins on Monday 17th October. Further information will be available from Mrs Charalambous nearer the time.

When I am older, I want to be....

A cat, an astronaut, a fireman, a policeman, a princess, a scientist, a racing driver, working with my dad, General Grievous or even Darth Vader! Reception class have recently been hard at work illustrating what or who they would like to be when they are older. Well done reception - we have all really enjoyed seeing your pictures! Many thanks to Victoria, our student helper, for supporting the children with this work!

Let's Grow Vouchers

These are once again being collected by the school. Mr McDonough would be very pleased to receive these!

Year 1 & 2 visit Hartlepool Historic Quay

This week, classes from Year 1 and 2 visited the historic quay at Hartlepool. The quay is a faithful reproduction of a seaport during the time of Nelson and Trafalgar. The children had a fantastic time whilst discovering all about the Navy, press gangs, pirates and what life was generally like during 18th Century. Various sights, sounds and smells really brought the whole experience to life! The children also went aboard the Trincomalee - Europe's oldest floating warship.
