DoESilver 2011

    Issue 6            21st October 2011

Viel Glück!

The Germany trip departs at 23.30 on Saturday 22nd October from Main School.  Please be there in plenty of time!  There is a new emergency mobile telephone contact number: 07508 196 995.  Follow the adventures of the group via Frau Hallam’s blog on the website.

Money Snake

Last year Sunderland High began the tradition of the ‘Money Snake’. The ‘Money Snake’ is an opportunity for pupils, friends and family of Sunderland High to donate their coppers (no silver allowed!) to form a long “snake”.  Last year, everybody’s generosity helped the snake travel all the way to Mrs Hope’s RE room on the second floor of Langham Tower.  This year, however, we have an even bigger goal: we hope to get the money snake not only to Mrs Hope’s room but all the way back down to the ground floor.  We are all confident that we will reach this goal, although more donations are needed as the snake is currently still slithering along the first floor.  So, remember to collect up all your pennies and come and feed our money snake!

Leeds Armoury Trip

For many years, Mrs Roddy has conducted an interesting and enjoyable trip for the Year 7 pupils to Leeds Armouries.  Leeds Armouries is the UK National Museum of Arms.  It is part of Britain’s oldest museum, as it has its origins in the main royal and national arsenal at the Tower of London which is now split into a family of museums throughout the country. The Y7’s will experience a day full of history, including a guided tour around the museum and a session where they get a chance to try on the armour.  Also, they will witness a live jousting competition – a rare experience, very reminiscent of the 15th and 16th centuries. Look out for the reports in next week’s newsletter!

Open Day

Thank you to everyone who helped at the Open Day last week, including all our pupil tour guides and those who took part in the dramatic productions in the Drama Studio.  Having had a wonderful taste of ‘The Thirty Nine Steps’ we are already looking forward to being able to see the whole performance in the Spring term!

Half TermIt’s half term next week and we aren’t particularly eager to do overtime, so there will be no newsletter! School re-opens for pupils on Monday 31st October and we will, of course, be back refreshed and energised for your next instalment of school news.  Hope you have an enjoyable break.  (From the Newsletter Editors - Gabrielle Ross and Michael Cameron)
