Senior Newsletter 25th November 2011

Senior Newsletter Friday 25th November 2011Christmas Carol ServiceSt Ignatius Church - Mon 12th December at 2.15pm

All members of the school community – parents, grandparents, friends and neighbours – are invited to join us for our annual Carol Service, which this year will take place in St Ignatius Church.  As there is limited parking at the Church, parents are encouraged to park near the school and use the minibus shuttle service which will run from outside Main School to St Ignatius. For many of us, our Carol Service sounds out the beginning of Christmas, so please do join us to celebrate the joy of Christmas.Following the service, seasonal refreshments of sherry and mince pies will be served in Langham Tower.

PTA Christmas Fayre Langham Tower,

Fri 2nd December 2011 3.15 until 5.30

The PTA is busy putting the final touches to arrangements for our ever popular Christmas Fayre.  This year’s celebration will bring an array of stalls and opportunities to fill up on sugary goodies and gifts, so we hope you’ll all brave the weather (whatever lies in store for us!) and come down to the coolest Christmas Fayre around.  There may even be a visit from Santa himself, providing he can find time in his busy schedule, of course.  So bring all your friends and family along for our Christmas countdown kick-off.  It should be a cracker!  PS Contributions for the bottle tombola and cake stalls would be very gratefully received – please hand in to any of the school offices.  Thank you!

Global citizenship - We are the world

On Thursday 17th November, 4 members of Year 12 went to the Global Student Forum seminar in Newcastle to learn about the reality and implications of pregnancy related deaths around the world. ‘The seminar was a great way to meet other Sixth Formers and gain a better understanding of global developmental issues and our role as citizens,’ commented Year 12 student, Oliver.  He added:  ‘It was heart breaking to find out that new born babies are up to 10 times less likely to survive if they have lost their mother in childbirth.’The Sixth Formers who attended to seminar will be feeding back their insights to fellow Sunderland High students in Assembly next term.
