Senior Newsletter 20^th January 2012 

Year 7 Girls’ Hockey v Emmanuel College – Match Report SHS were represented in this fixture by;Ingrid Mushens (Captain), Ruth Chapman, Lucy Stobbart, Lucy Robinson, Ellie McBeth, Elle Anderson, Molly Waites, Macy Donoghue, Alicia Cordery and Kate Dunningham. 

SHS started this ‘away’ fixture very brightly, moved the ball around really well and looked the stronger team in the opening minutes of the match.

Guess what happened next? That’s right – Emmanuel got lucky and scored with their first attack! SHS hit back almost immediately with a wonderful strike from our star centre forward Ellie McBeth.

 SHS were well on top at this stage of the game and we were soon rewarded with a brilliant second goal. Lucy Robinson went on a truly amazing dribble right through the heart of the Emmanuel team! At the end of her run Lucy was very unselfish and passed to Ellie who promptly smashed her second goal of the game to fire SHS into a 2-1 lead. 

Emmanuel managed to grab another goal just before half-time which levelled the score at 2-2. Emmanuel played much better in the second half. SHS found ourselves under a lot of pressure but our keeper Molly Waites, together with Ruth Chapman and Lucy Stobbart in the heart of our defence were equal to everything Emmanuel fired at us.

Unfortunately Emmanuel’s pressure eventually began to tell and they manage to score 2 second half goals to win this really hard fought game 4-2. SHS can be very proud of our performance in this game. We attacked with great speed and skill, scored two excellent goals and defended very, very well!! Our woman of the match was Ellie McBeth.

Degrees of Success

Sunderland High School prides itself on being a close-knit community, supporting each and every pupil as much as possible throughout their working life.We have just received news from the University of Newcastle that three of our former pupils graduated this year in the following subjects:-      

Kirsty McLachlan, Applied Biology - BSc Honours.-     

 Laura Parnell, Medicine and Surgery - MB BS Honours-     

 John Stutchbury, Electronics and Computer Engineering with Industrial Project  - MEng Honours.

We wish Kirsty, Laura and John every success in the future – well done!

Exam Time

Years 12 and 13 are currently in the middle of a tough A level examination period. Some students have completed their modules, some still have them to do (and I haven’t got any!) There are also GCSE modules going on, so good luck to all our hard working students - keep going!If you need to remind yourself of examination leave dates, please contact the Main School office.
